West Coast

Arrested Development is my nightly medicine lately. I have been watching 2 to 4 episodes a night, before bed. I think last night I broke the barrier into season 3. Which saddens me because that means I do not have much left. I guess that is what happens when you watch so many at a time. It is hard for me to go slow.

Karl and Ben got Fable 2, and they are enjoying it a lot.

I had a can of vegetarian chili from Safeway for lunch yesterday.

We got pumpkin spice creamer at work. Delicious. As if I didn’t drink enough coffee already.

I played my accordion for the kids at work yesterday, it was awesome. One of them wasn’t sure about it, but the other was way into it. She was totally smiling. Ha.

Still trying to figure out what to be for Halloween. Osama Brad Laden? The dad from Family Ties? Choices choices. Should I just wear a robe? I wish I could be a Jedi. I should get a Jedi cloak and then always be a Jedi from here on out. At Halloween, I mean, not everyday. I wish.

Now I’m Exhausted

I bought an old 8mm film projector at Goodwill the other day. Ben and I were shopping for his Thriller Zombie costume. I couldn’t not look at the electronics. I seriously couldn’t help it. So as I was scanning the shelves, I saw the projector. Having wanted one for quite some time now, I checked it out and tested it. It works perfectly. So I had to buy it. Then that night I went on Ebay and won two films.

1. “The Flaming Jungle”. It was filmed in 1955. It is about a village and life styles in Sudan in the 1950’s.

2. “Wild Yosemite”. I can’t find any information about this one, but from the title it seems like a total and complete winner.

The plan is to buy a long extension cord and find some place outdoors we can project this films. People walking by can stop and watch, we will be sitting in lawn chairs. Seems awesome. More planning to be done, and more 8mm films to be bought.

(the title of this blog is a reference to a song, anyone know who sings it?)

I can’t my finger on it, but something about drinking rum and cokes reminds of a past time in my life. I can’t even think of exactly what it is. It is like opening an old jar at a thrift store and smelling the exact smell of your grandmother’s living room during the winter. But not at the house she lives in now. At the old one in Granada Hills. The one they sold, and you deeply regret not visiting more often. I bet the people that bought it remodeled the kitchen, and i bet it looks way worse now. I wish I could go back in time. Some things were so much better.

Just Another Reason Why Everyone Should Have One

Today at work I was busy fixing this and fixing that, I have been doing a lot of household repairs and improvements lately.  I was going to hang a photo of one of my girls families on the wall in the living room, so I went downstairs into my office to get my hammer, the stud finder, and a nail. I had the nail in my mouth, I don’t know why I do this but I am sure other people do it too, and the other tools in my hands. Once I reached the top of the stairs I realized I had dropped the nail somewhere.  I had coworkers try to help me find it and noone could find the nail I had dropped. Then my coworker said, “Hey there is something shiny in your beard..”. THE NAIL WAS IN MY BEARD! It had fallen out of my mouth and my beard caught it. Amazing. Just another example of how amazing beards are. It is like having a 3rd hand.

Jesse and I picked almost 8 pounds of blueberries. It only cost us 9 dollars. Tonight we are baking a blueberry pie. Blueberries are amazing.

Come Tomorrow

I am trying to figure out what to plant in our garden out front. I should look into what can even grow during the winter here. Not the same as So Cal. I tried looking on Google just now, no luck. I will have to do further research.

Coffee. Thank you.

Jammed with Jesse last Friday night after attending Plush You. Mike was shouting genres and we would play them for no less than 1 minute. The whole event was a blast, but seriously there were a few jams that were really good. Some kind of like a Dinosaur Jr. 90’s rock and roll feel. Blur when they rock out. It was awesome. It also was just what I needed to escape the slight funk I was in. Plus hanging with Mike and Jesse is always great.

Karl, Ben, and I have been driving cars really fast and crashing, flying helicopters onto rooftops only to drop a grenade at our feet to see how far we can fly away from being blasted. Or trying to make an explosion big enough to throw our bodies from one rooftop to another. Needless to say, we have been cracking up every night with these hilarious activities.

I want to make juice today.

I want to research some soups I can make with the aid of my juicer. I think it is possible.

I want Brenna’s recipe for carrot cake muffins…with walnuts!!!!

I recently acquired a small dish for my office. I put candy in it. The side of the bowl says, “My Bowl”. Then inside there is a picture of Garfeild, and he is saying, “Burp”. Priceless.

Damien Jurado played a free instore last weekend, at Sonic Boom in Ballard. Alicia and I went and it was really good. I haven’t seen him live in a while. His new album is amazing. if you have not yet heard, Caught in the Trees. You really should.

I had meeting yesterday with my staff, I am required to have 2 a month, and I feel like I am getting the hang of it. I was a little nervous to have them. But now that I am more comfortable with the staff and they trust me and know me more they are easier. I feel like I am becoming more and more of a leader as each week passes. I want to be a good leader.

Picked up a bottle of Basil Hayden last week during my funk. It is sooo smooth and hearty. I have never spent 40 dollars on a bottle of whiskey though, yet I am happy I did. I have just been sipping it slowly, and enjoying it slowly. I recommend it.

The other day I wanted gummi bears but instead I ate a banana!!

Hello Operator

HELLO!!!!!

Thought I would check in with everyone here and say how sorry I am I have not been blogging more. That will hopefully change now. I am feeling more secure at work and that has been making me more and more comfortable by the time I get home. Some days I come home exhausted, some I come home energized! I will try to blog more.

I am friends with an artist named Kate on Flickr and she is one of the Design Professors at Portland State University. I have been enjoying her art for some time now, but wanted to make sure everyone was aware of how great it is. Here is a link to the design class’s website that she teaches.  Also she has some radical stuff for sale on Etsy.

I am so excited about the upcoming film, Handmade Nation. I just purchased this off their Etsy. I think it is going to be a handmade Christmas.

In fact….IT IS GOING TO BE ONE!!! GO here for more details. I have a few ideas of what I will make everyone. Should be cool. I mean, with the state of our economy……just kidding..blah. I would rather make friends this year and stay in the spirit of giving them things from my heart and gifts that I personally had to create. To me, not everyone, that means more.

I had a delicious eggplant, tofu, black bean, mushroom casserole for dinner tonight. I threw it together sorta randomly. I cooked up the veggies and all with some thai peanut sauce, then put it inbetween whole wheat torillas and then baked it with a little pepper jack cheese on top. There was a little green enchilada sauce too. It was a perfect blend of food and deliciousness. But I guess you will have to take my word for it, so take it!

Got a new Minus The Bear track the other day, “Houston, We Have Uh Oh”. I like it. It sounds kinda like they put an older song in a jar and let it sit for a few years to mature.
